As the organizers of this esteemed conference, we are not only committed to fostering a space for knowledge exchange and collaboration within the Python & PyData communities but also to making a positive impact on the world at large.
This year, we are dedicating our efforts towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special emphasis on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
What are the UN Sustainable Development Goals?
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, established in 2015, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Comprising 17 interconnected goals, the SDGs recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Why Gender Equality?
Among the 17 SDGs, Goal 5 specifically targets gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. It's a recognition of the fact that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Despite significant strides made in the past decades, discrimination against women and girls still persists worldwide.
By focusing on this goal, we aim to:
Raise Awareness: Through our talks, workshops, and panel discussions, we will shed light on the challenges faced by women in tech and the broader world.
Promote Inclusion: We are taking active steps to ensure diverse representation at our conference, from the speakers to the attendees.
Empower Through Knowledge: Through specialized sessions, we will equip our community with tools and knowledge to combat gender inequality in their respective domains.
How PyConDE & PyData Berlin is Making a Difference
Diverse Speakers Line-up: We are ensuring that our speaker line-up reflects the diversity we wish to see in the tech world. By giving a platform to voices from different backgrounds, we hope to inspire and educate our community.
Scholarships for Underrepresented Groups: Recognizing the barriers that many face in attending conferences, we are offering scholarships to underrepresented groups, with a focus on women and girls in tech. Learn more about our programme here.
Workshops & Panels: Specialized sessions will be dedicated to discussing challenges, sharing experiences, and brainstorming solutions related to gender equality in the tech industry.
